2008 Mitsubishi Galant Owner's Manual

The Mitsubishi Galant engine is perfectly adapted by Mitsubishi Motors for operating conditions in Canada: it comes in a version for countries with a very cold climate, and thanks to the latest electronic ignition system with an automatic octane correction system with feedback control from two knock sensors, it can run on unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 90 and above.
Proprietary technology MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing & lift Electronic Control, electronic control system for valve timing and lift height), which has rally roots, provides high power and torque on the “bottoms and tops”, excellent throttle response and elasticity, which is very convenient when everyday driving in the city and on the highway.
This modern 16-valve engine at the same time proved to be very reliable, smooth and quiet. This is achieved thanks to another also well-established proprietary Silent Shaft technology (Silent Shaft): in addition to the traditional crankshaft, the engine uses additionally two counter-rotating balancer (silent) shafts, thanks to which the 4-cylinder engine also runs perfectly smoothly and quietly, as well as 6-cylinder in-line engines.
In order to realize the high power and torque of our 2.4 S4 MIVEC engine, we use the unique Mitsubishi INVECS-II Sports Mode sequential automatic transmission, which has a sophisticated adaptive Shift Control electronic control system with artificial intelligence elements, which simplifies driving Galant.
