The 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV all-electric hatchback has been in production since 2009. Initially, it was available only to a narrow circle of people, and in 2010 it became available to everyone. The first releases were quite expensive and could hardly compete with other manufacturers. Because of this, the company decided to change the battery – it became less bulky, but at the same time the savings amounted to about 25 thousand dollars, which greatly benefited the further sales of the Mitsubishi i-MIEV.
