Mitsubishi desires its own Toyota Land Cruiser, and although the reappearance of the Montero would be the optimal method to accomplish this, the Japanese company would wish to risk with another kind of 4×4 that will utilize the technology and capability solutions of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV platform.

Mechanically, the 2026 Outlander has a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder in-line with a power of 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a CVT transmission, Sport mode, and paddle shifters, and drives it to the front wheels. It has five driving modes, namely, the Normal, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel and Snow. As it can be supposed, this mechanical construction is close to the Nissan X-Trail.

Its front suspension is a McPherson strut design, which has coil springs and the rear is in a multilink design, which has a stabilizer bar. The steering has been electronically aided. In the case of brakes, it has ventilated discs on the front and solid discs on the rear side, which is supplemented by an electronic parking brake that has an Auto Hold feature. It has 18 or 20 inch two-tone aluminum wheels depending on the version, 235/60 R18 or 255/45 R20 tires.

Dimensionally, it is 4,720 mm long, 1, 645 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,706 mm. With the mirrors extended, it is 2,144 mm wide in total and in the folded state, 1,897 mm wide. It is a seven-seat vehicle in three rows of seats with a maximum towing weight of 1,600kg.

It will be a real off-roader, though atop an SUV formula, but with a significant step beyond what we have been used to in the Mitsubishi Outlander and also its recently introduced and more sturdy Trail Edition making. Through this introduction, the brand will regain its more adventurous and able off-road perception.

What is special in the Outlander Trail Edition is its strong design and the off-road capacity.

Mitsubishi will roll out its new SUV in the year 2026, its first market will be the United States. Nevertheless, we cannot exclude the fact that this model can be sold to some other markets since, with the help of the plug-in hybrid powertrain used in the Outlander PHEV, which allows to achieve up to 306 hp and an electric range of 86 km, this model might actually be sold in Europe.

Mitsubishi states that the design of this new model would be distinctly different to the outlander with a stronger and more aggressive look focusing on the off-road features of the new model. It will also be able to perform better off-road and this coupled with better ground clearance and utilizing of more off-road tires will make it gain better off-road performance.

In 2026, the Outlander will get a new engine that is designed and developed by Mitsubishi Motors and it has in common with the Eclipse Cross.

This is a 1.5 liter, turbo, 16-valve, four-cylinder gasoline with the first mild-hybrid system of the company. Installing in place of the present engine in the Outlander 2.5 liter, this new engine will provide more confidence and comfort in the driving experience due to electrified torque that will allow a car to accelerate at any standstill.

It will also introduce a new LE trim, between the entry-level ES and the mid-range SE, in 2026, as well as the top-of-the-line SEL Black Edition and the revival of the much-loved Ralliart model.

The Outlander was a resounding success after the release of the new generation in 2022, so the 2025 Outlander has a mid-cycle update to the interior and exterior design, customer touchpoints, and on-road performance. It will be aesthetically the same with the 2026 model.

More details of the 2026 Outlander will be announced later in the year including pricing. The car will be marketed at the fourth quarter of 2025.

Outlander 2026 is propelled by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with the power of 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. To be used in versatile driving, it includes five driving modes:

Normal, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel and Snow.

A CVT transmission having Sport mode and paddle shifters is smooth for driving experience.

Luxury Experience: Yamaha in the Cabin.
The cooperation with Yamaha can be considered one of the primary distinguishing features. The Yamaha Dynamic sound premium 8-speaker system turns the 7-passenger interior into a personal concert hall combining masterpiece acoustics with Mitsubishi technology.
