The Mitsubishi car brand presented a new compact hatchback Delica Mini in Japan. The tiny, boxy, outdoor-friendly vehicle is available with optional all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain.

The Delica Mini received sliding rear doors and an upright body with design features inspired by the larger Delica D:5. Despite its small size, the design of the car makes it look like a solid SUV. The hatchback is only 3,395 millimeters long and 1,475 mm wide, but 1,830 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,495 mm and has a special shock absorber setup in the AWD variant.

Depending on trim, the Delica Mini rides on 14- or 15-inch wheels with 155/65 R14 or 165/55 R15 tires, respectively, for the front-wheel drive model. On the all-wheel drive version, Mitsubishi will install different 15-inch wheels wrapped in 165/60 R15 tires. The capacity of the fuel tank is only 27 liters. The lightest available version weighs 970 kilograms and the heaviest – is 1060 kg.

The basic model is equipped with a 0.66-liter atmospheric engine with a capacity of 52 hp. and 60 Nm of torque. The more powerful version has an engine with 64 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque. The Delica Mini is offered exclusively with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and both engines can work with either front- or all-wheel drive.

In addition to the Grip Control and Hill Descent systems, it also has adaptive LED headlights (with automatic high beam), adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and even traffic sign recognition. The interior is lined with water-repellent and stain-resistant fabric, and the cargo area is also stain-resistant.

The Delica Mini is also available in 12 body color options. The car will go on sale on May 25 for 1,804,000 to 2,238,500 yen. This is roughly between $13,800 and $17,000 at the current exchange rate. Mitsubishi already has about 9,000 pre-orders, of which 60% are for the all-wheel drive model, and 80% of buyers have chosen the highest trim level.
